INDEPENDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETS AS TOMORI LAUDS MEMBERS
After two years of virtual meetings of the Independent Advisory Committee (IAC) of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), the committee met physically in Abuja on Wednesday, May 25th to deliberate on the possible accreditation of three candidate laboratories after assessment.
The Chairman of the committee, Prof Oyewale Tomori, in his opening remarks, commended the Council for ensuring that the COVID – 19 pandemic did not disrupt activities as things went on as planned. He stated that although a few things could be solved through the use of the internet, some required coming together. Tomori, therefore, commended the members for responding to the invitation despite their other commitments.
The Registrar/CEO, Dr Tosan Erhabor, in his speech equally appreciated the committee for the accreditation of the 11 laboratories under his administration and during tenure of Prof M Y Gwarzo as Chairman of the Governing Board. He stressed the importance of physical meetings in light of the fact that members had been vaccinated and even received the booster doze.
Erhabor informed the committee that MLSCN recently became Associate member of International Laboratory Accreditation Co-operation (ILAC) due to their support and diligence, adding that they helped in making the MLSCN Accreditation Service an internationally accredited body. He also noted that MLSCN could soon become a full member of Africa Accreditation Cooperation (AFRAC) and urged the committee members to continue to support the agency as there was still work to be done.
