The Honorable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, has urged the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) to intensify efforts to eliminate quackery in medical laboratory services. This call was made during his familiarization visit to the Council’s headquarters in Abuja yesterday.
Dr. Salako stressed the need to closely monitor Medical Laboratory Practitioners and take action against defaulters. He promised the government’s support to help MLSCN improve medical laboratory services in the country. While highlighting the importance of the Medical Laboratory Science profession, the Ministry said a field that “shines the light on clinical diagnosis” deserves to be supported.

In response, the Registrar/CEO of the MLSCN, Prof. Tosan Erhabor, reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to upholding professional standards and advancing healthcare services. Prof. Erhabor also stressed the need for sustained government support in the following areas:
• Enhanced funding for nationwide inspections to combat quackery.
• Investment in modern laboratory infrastructure to improve service delivery.
• Workforce development initiatives to increase the sector’s capacity.
