Training Institutions charged to adhere to MLSCN Policy or face sanctions

Colleges of Health Sciences and Technology training Medical Laboratory Technicians in the country have been charged to always adhere to the extant policy of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) to avoid sanctions. The Registrar/CEO of the Council, Dr Tosan Erhabor stated this during the presentation of certificate of Approval to Commence to Alma’Arif College of Health Sciences and Technology (ACOHST) Potiskum Yobe State, recently in Abuja.

While congratulating the authorities of the institution on their success at the resource verification exercise which, according to him, culminated in the approval given to the institution to commence the training of Medical Laboratory Technicians, the Registrar also welcomed the institution into the Committee of Colleges/Schools of Health Technology.  He, however, urged them to adhere strictly to the MLSCN policy on admission, online indexing, and eligibility for Council examinations and so on.

Furthermore, Erhabor warned the College authorities against what he considered to be baseless and deceptive claims about their programs that could constitute professional misconduct, adding that “Extortion of money from students in any guise is not allowed and anybody found wanting will be investigated and possibly sanctioned.”

In his response, the Registrar of the College, Malam Usman Alhaji Saleh expressed appreciation to the Council for ensuring high standards in training institutions and the profession. He, therefore, assured of his institution’s commitment towards upholding such while abiding by the extant policy of the regulator.
